Actors as Voice Actors

Postby Porter » Tue Aug 28, 2007 12:13 pm

So what is the fucking deal? It used to be when a cartoon movie was released, it was based on brand new character development and the story.

Every animated cartoon movie now features a cast of actors contributing their voices. There is no brand new character development, you simply are casting the actor into a role they couldn't in the real world play. These snotty actors simply play and promote themselves. They have no unique talent to voice a brand new character into something unique.

Take Shrek for example, you have Donkey. He is a donkey, but let's be realistic, Donkey is a black guy. Eddie Murphy is cast as the voice actor, so all we get essentially is an annoying black guy.

Other examples? Shark Tale, Will Smith as the Shark Killer, yes that character is as gangsta black as they come, Robert De Niro as the Don of the Sharks. Ect. Ect.

One of the newest movies "Cars" features Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable guy. The red shiney car is typical Owen Wilson, a boring, stale, character that we find in Starsky and Hutch and Wedding Crashers. Larry's character is some dumbass truck that might as well be on his CDs.

I will admit some Actors are worthy voice actors, like Robin Williams back when he wasn't credited on the front of the DVD case.

I will never see an animation again that features a cast of snotty asshole actors. Screw all this bullshit and watch Seth McFarlene (sp?) and Family Guy. That guy has talent to develop his characters, to make them unique. Not portaying himself like the rest of the assholes in Hollywood.

Oh and another one of the shittiest performances in history:

Ray Romano in Ice Age.

Futurama is a masterful work of voice acting.

I agree, Robin Williams is the one of the only guys who can pull off acting/voice acting well.
In this day and age, an era where there are people who actually throw shit at each other, anything, could be possible.

The animated movies with all the colourful characters have become such a franchise, I agree. I actually hadn't noticed the extent to which Hollywood actors were simply using the films to promote themselves.
I'm pretty sure there are a few honest exceptions though, like the first Toy Story, Shrek and the Polar Express.

Pixar are practically the only CGI movie company that doesn't overload their films with overly famous movie actors that practically sell the movies for them, and are always painfully obvious. Goddamn Dreamworks.

Speaking of voice acting, I'm guessing none of you have heard the voice acting in Two Worlds, correct? Hehe.

I remember flipping through channels one time and hearing that the guy who plays Ray's brother on Everybody Loves Raymond was angry that he only made $500,000 a year doing it--half as much as Ray Romano.

What is up with shows like Everybody Loves Raymond making ANY money? The acting is so terrible; they should have to pay to be on T.V., not vice versa.

What's up is that people are actually enjoying it, otherwise it'd be cancelled.
It seems obvious enough.
Also, people are morons.

I am proud to say I have never even watched an episode of that show.
And the Lord said unto John, "Come forth and receive eternal life." But John came fifth and won a toaster.
