Tents are old fashoned?

Postby frurseessesia » Wed Nov 10, 2010 7:47 am

Hey,
I've been on a trip in a tent. It was cool! But I was thinking is it old fashoned?

Dear frurseessesia,

Thank you for your kind query dated November 10, 2010. My answer would depend entirely on the sort of trip which you were taking.

Was this trip a trip of the camping variety? If so, accommodating oneself by tent is hardly old-fashioned, even if it is a practice that predates the common era. A temporary means of housing such as a tent is simply the most logical and practical method of braving the elements associated with the Great Outdoors.

Or perhaps, did you travel to one of our modern cities, full of skyscrapers of glass and steel? If that were the case, the idea of sheltering oneself in a tent seems unnecessary and perhaps a bit old-fashioned, when there are any number of seamy flophouses and crack dens available in our crime-ridden contemporary society.

In any case, old-fashioned methods and devices are undeserving of our collective scorn. They might seem obsolete or eccentric to current modes of thinking, but they often display a unique character, and may even build it within those who employ such out-dated practices.

Yours truly,

But the real question is whether or not he was speaking about a tent or perhaps the trip in it self being out dated.
<WarV> You know what this place needs?
<Strayed> hookers?
<@Jeramyu> boobs?
<WarV> How about hookers WITH boobs!

Dear War,

In regards to the clarification you seek, I fear I can offer nothing definitive as only frurseessesia can answer your question with any degree of certainty. However, I am free to speculate, and when offered this freedom I am typically inclined to indulge myself.

frurseessesia wrote:Hey,

Clearly, "trip" is the operative subject in Frurry's opening statement. But also note the importance of the prepositional phrase "in a tent," which functions as an adjective and provides a layer of description which we should be wary to divorce from its original context. If he merely intended to inquire as to the superannuation of his trip or trips in general, why tease us with unnecessary details?

Given this line of thought, I can only conclude Frurry's specificity was designed to insure we addressed both the excursion and canvas habitation as relatively equal partners with regards to their obsolescence. If you feel my original reply failed to meet these speculated expectations, I can only offer my sincerest apologies.

With Deepest Sympathies,
