Running The Way in Wine?

Postby Tacroy » Sun Jun 07, 2009 4:16 pm

Has anyone had success running The Way (or I guess other RM2K games) in Wine? When I try to do it, the text is all messed up - the 'r's are missing their crossbar, as are 't's and 'E's. There is that post down there about a patch that will change the game's fonts to something that is apparently more readable, but winsite is dead now. I've tried editing Numbers.png in ChipSet in The Way 1, but that didn't do anything.

Anyone have any other ideas for making these things more readable?

Heres another link to the font patch you mentioned if you want to try that.

I have no experience with Wine otherwise so I can't really help.

Thanks! I didn't realize that RM2K would actually pull fonts from Windows' fonts directory. This being Wine, there was nothing in there, so it was left with some crappy defaults. I'm not entirely certain how it chooses fonts, but putting an Arial font named "arial.ttf" in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts made things readable.
