What are you up to?

Postby Porter » Fri Nov 29, 2019 8:45 am

Well, for some reason this place popped into my head.

These days, I'm still a high school chem teacher, basketball coach, and still living on. I still play The Way once a year. Although I never grind, I edit the game where I can just cheat through and watch the story.

Wow, nostalgia...
Hey guys! Been a few...years! Nowadays I work as a furniture salesman for a company called Happy Sleeper, haha. Kinda suits me, not gonna lie.

You all helped me through the most lonely and isolated period of my life. It’s been a while but I am always going to be eternally grateful to this group, and Lun, for bringing us all together.

I wish The Way was a full game! Maybe on Switch or something! I’d play it again for sure...heck, I finally got a nice gaming laptop, maybe I’ll give it a run-through just for old times. :)

Hope every one of you is well!! I love you all!!!

- Jon (Glenn) :)

Edit: Oh and duh! Big PS: I am now engaged! She’s an amazing woman who loves playing Skyrim and likes to work out with me ;) I really lucked out, and I’m glad I made it to this part of my life to meet her! I can’t emphasize enough the role you all played in helping me get here. Take care!!

Wow, haven't thought about this place in ages, for some reason I was thinking about the Way today and wound up here. I guess I'll have to play it again and see how it holds up, I think I've forgotten enough of the story now that it will be a really fun experience :-)

I'm teaching intermediate ancient Greek at the moment while I (slowly, painfully) finish my dissertation. Then, who knows? Professor? Editor? I'd love to write for a living, but that's pretty tough. Oh well, I'm optimistic (I'm engaged too!)

Maybe I'll have an update in another 10 years when I'm randomly thinking about this place :-P

Hope all you guys are doing well, wherever you are

Jeez, This game popped into my head in the shower and I thought I would take a look to see whats going on.

I went through probably 10 different fields of work before settling in as a cook. Sous Chef at a awesome local restaurant now.

Now I am off to read through the good ole IRC quote. We were fucking hilarious.

Hope none of you are sick. I've got bad lungs from getting pneumonia a few years ago so I'm staying inside as much as possible.

I'm 29 instead of 13 and I'm an attorney now. Being here is kind of bittersweet except the sweet is nostalgia and the bitter is having to read how much of a dipshit I was.

I've been spending an excessive amount of time on the internet during quarantine, revisiting my online history as a way to think about my present online identity. It is truly horrendous to read through my old posts here, when i was 13-14 years old--but I'm also very grateful that this message board continues as a living archive. I remember having a lot of hilarious times here, and although I was banned (repeatedly?) and seen as a nuisance and a villain, I'm grateful to the community. I wonder if Jeramyu will ban me again outright.

I'm 29 too, like Greatchickenman, who I remember being a spammy brother-in-arms. I am certainly not a lawyer or a teacher, however: most of my 20s has been spent working as little as possible as a server in fancy restaurants, and spending my time on my creative pursuits, as well as a jobless double major in Philosophy and Art History & Film Studies.

I invite anyone who cares to follow me on twitter. @theinvertedform

2005 was the day my life changed when I googled 'How to make RPG'. I've been a fan of PSX RPGs at the time and wondered how one could create games. That led me to the RM scene and also to this game.

This game has been such a huge inspiration for me that like others, thoughts of it will just suddenly pop up leading me back to checking the forum. Anyway, I'm a software dev now but unfortunately not a game dev.

I am writing for a new RPG. Hopefully the game sees the light of day in a few years. I think that's about all I can say as I am under an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).

I bought Shadows of Adam I believe around 4 years ago and really enjoyed it! I pop in here every now and then and will support your work. It has been around 23 years now since Crestfallen and one year away from 20 years since you did Episode One of The Way!

I appreciate it! I enjoyed writing the dialogue for Shadows of Adam, but I missed having facesets so much. Going to work hard to make these next 20 years something special.

Hi all! This brings back so many memories. I hope y'all are healthy! I think I might steal some lore of The Way for a future DnD campaign. The idea of the rolling mists and forcing the population to wander is good stuff.

In other news, I'm married and a dad now. In a bout of nostalgia I considered replaying The Way but opted to start watching a let's play by Shadowhawk on youtube instead. Dad-gaming is easy when the kids sleep most of the day. but once they start running it's difficult. And it will stays difficult until they develop or learn self-control and risk assessment.

Warms my heart to still see people to check in here from time to time. This place has been on my mind a lot lately.

Also I don't think Strayed checks these forums at all, but we still chat daily, so I'll say hi on his behalf.

PS. Lun say hi to Verb for us!

Dunno if anyone remembers me but I sure do recognize a lot of the names in here.

I, myself, have been teaching English in Japan for the past six years. It's been a lovely experience but it has become stale and I feel like it's time to try something different. Funny how whenever I reach a crossroads in life I seem to be reminded of The Way.

Best wishes to all.

Holy moley, it's surprising I can reach back to the mid aughts and remember my password.

Hi everyone! I didn't post a lot but I did do a chonker of a theory thread between Ep5 and Ep6 (I feel like thats when The Way community was really buzzing) but I mostly just quietly enjoyed the game in the background.

I came back to the Fleshwit LP (I also post on SA) and I was reminded that these forums existed. It's... interesting to see so many people I remember from well over a decade ago. The Way is a curious game. Years and years removed, I'd like to say I recognize its flaws for what they are. But funny enough, I end up actually appreciate the messiness of The Way as I get older and the almost mind-bending ways Lun would play with the concepts of story and character. The flaws make the game as much as its strength and I can't really point to anything I'd really want to change (except where Tetzel go, Lun. Where???)

My life took a series of highs and lows since I first played this game, but I can say I did take my memories of the game with me. For the past year, I've been working in a game dev studio as a business/creative specialist. By far its the hardest job I've ever had, but it's incredibly powerful to see something you worked on be appreciated by others. Even if it's in tiny little ways. The last game I worked on had maybe 40 lines of dialogue, but seeing people go "Yo that's a cool line" makes me feel awesome. Believe it or not, a lot of people in my generation (early 30s) grew up on RM2K games, and I've met other developers who have played (and enjoyed) The Way.

I also backed Shadows of Adam and enjoyed the hell out of it. For those who haven't played it, there's a completely inappropriate, out-of-place minecart-puzzle segment called "Earth Maze" in the latter parts of the game. I cackled, knowing full well that only Lun would make a level like that. Nice stuff
