Good to see there are other DW/Q fans here.

The early Dragon Warrior games were atrocious. I was shocked to see how bad they were, since there had been far superior computer RPGs for years. It was not an auspicious start for console RPGs.

Sure, the NES versions sucked, but the SNES remakes were a lot better. Then they made the GBC remakes, which were way too easy. DW/Q 2 sucked big time, but I like 1 and 3.

Lufia games were great too.

I check out the link and read the whole essay. I can honestly say I had to take time out at times while reading out due to the hysteria of laughter I was experiencing.

Anyway, getting back on topic...

I never really categorise favourites, I usually forgot something or I'm afraid i will, so I just keep a favourite in mind and compare it to every game I'be played: Final Fantasy 7

It was only with the advent of the Playstation that console RPGs reached the same level as computer RPGs. The was partially due to the gross inferiority of console hardware. The SNES was itself way behind the times; it used the same main processor as the Apple IIGS, which was years older. The disparity between arcade games and home console games was also very evident; as a kid, I could never figure out why the game companies didn't just make consoles that were as powerful as arcade machines.
